VELLIK GARKANSEN
Vellik was born on December 7, 14 A.U. He was raised a Chimera by his mother, Ziella, and step-father, Menophis alongside his four younger siblings for whom he took responsibility and cared for.
His first experience with the law was while he was still a boy. He became quite drunk one day and was brought home to his parents. This is when his grandmother, Akralia, and grandfather, Jahseli, came into the picture, the latter of whom insisted that Vellik move to the Eeshan temple to live with him. From here Vellik learned the Eeshan principles that would later become a factor in how he performed his job as a guard. He was known for his honor and being fair and just with the criminal element. None could recall him ever mistreating a prisoner.
Scandal broke out the year after he joined the guards. The facts are not too well-known, but had to do with Vellik and three other guards breaking into buildings on the Royal Eagle estate while investigating a potential crime. Political heads were threatened, and the end result was a whipping for all involved.
Shortly after this, Vellik received a promotion to centurion. He earned a reputation for solving crime and bringing criminals to justice. In less than a year, just shy of his sixteenth birthday, he received the promotion to captain. This event angered many soldiers in the other divisions and there was much discontent, as they believed he was too young for the rank.
During this time, he became a competent fighter. As well as being skilled as an archer, he gained mastery of the sword under the direction of Sir General Vasyklo Garkansen. Vellik volunteered for the war season of 31 A.U. as an archer and wed Dame Balinda Garkansen mere weeks before in a match arranged by Inaya, thereby joining the Garkansen household. Though the couple barely knew each other, they went into the marriage with an open mind and Vellik grew very smitten with his beautiful new wife. Unbeknown to him, Balinda was pregnant with their first child when he left. Vellik fought with the Air Force for most of the campaign, and was last seen fighting with the other archers on the battlefield. Rumor has it that an arrow brought him down, but this could never be verified, as the enemy was quick to haul him away.
He did not reappear until eleven years later, when, during the 42 A.U. siege of Fort Triumph, Vellik was one of a group of slaves paraded onto the tower to die by a hangman's noose. His body was recovered and brought back to Anarinuell, where he was given proper funeral rites which were attended by friends and family who had never forgotten him during all his years as a slave. He is survived by his daughter, Levana, from his marriage to Balinda.
