Vilis, formerly Marcus, formerly Ista Barun, once wealthy middle class, once noble, was reduced to beneath proper society through the actions of his Head of House, Antonius, in the Antonian Apostasy of 39 A.U..

Once known for his keen business acumen, Vilis was an Ista Barun asset. Within the noble family, he was known to keep documents and files on all the various needs and wants of said family. Vilis was intelligent, well-spoken and well-written. That said, he also had a very foul temper and held his family and friends to a very high standard.

A popular tale is told of Vilis in the bath house. He ran to the women's side and everyone fled, save for one extremely attractive and haughty young woman. He was instantly smitten, and began taunting and trying to seduce her. It was, to Vilis' shock, the then-Princess Inaya Elianik. He was eventually beaten up by her uncles, the princes, and taken to trial.

However, the Ista Barun family committed their repeated treasons. Ironically, it was when Adrastus took over the family and used his Ista Baruns try to gain control of the Chimera Clan from the Rissiks, the very family that the Elikistas would later charge with treason against their medallion.

That said, Vilis' participation was not equal and both Inaya and Sabinus were quite clear in their judgments. Vilis was given two choices. He could either be stripped of his noble title and family name, swear an oath promising that he would never strike save for self-defense, or he could share Adrastus' fate: executed for treason. From then on, Vilis was a Marcus, leading the family alongside Antonius. He tried everything he could to gain nobility for himself (and possibly the Marcus family as well). He called upon his younger brother Docci (formerly Ista Barun, formerly Shadina, currently Ista Aldrik) in his efforts to set foot back in the noble class.

Finally, in 39 A.U., the Marcus family was indicated in a plot to seize the Republic and overthrow governments of several clans, the Chimerans included. They worked with the Rissiks in a complex plan that would see both the Elikista line extinguished and the Viceroy himself removed from power. The whole Marcus family was condemned, Antonius killed without permission to ask for quarter, the others offered that choice. Vilis did not take it.

Vilis never married, never had children. Another Ista Barun dead and heirless, implicated in treason.
