War Season 2008 FAQ

Q: Do we still have autocode damage?

A: No

Q: Are there WarShamis?

A: No. Some Shamibelians (such as a General) may rarely be played by the WarGMs but otherwise all shamibelians you fight will be SemiAI-Semi GM-controlled Shamis.

Q: Do we still have to go through all the rooms?

A: No, the war season this year is being run in as close a representation to an actual campaign as the Wizards and player command team can manage.

Q: Is it true the combat system has changed?

A: Yes, see Help Combat and sit down for some reading, players on channels can help you as well.

Q: Is it true that we can actually use tactics at last?

A: Yes, see help @defend for an example. On top of that there are strategic bonuses, benefits to scouting, mission benefits and IC benefits of IC leadership actions on the battlefield.

Q: What's this about offline damage, I don't want to log on to a dead character.

A: See Help @offline and news offline war policy

Q: Who do I speak to if I have a code problem with combat

A: Use the Combat channel (addcom com=Combat)

Q: Are there any new channels I should be on this war?

A: Yes, All PCs should be on Army_Orders. Airforce should also be on Airforce_Orders, Infantry on Infantry_Orders, 5th Division on Support_Orders. These are IC Channels, they're not for ooc discussion at all. Combat should be used for Combat bugs only.

Q: Should the War channel be used for serious war-related discussions, not chatting?

A: Yes. WarChat is the channel for chatting at war.

Q: I disagree with one of the changes to Combat, what should I do?

A: Post a thread on the IBforums Combat 3.0 board and articulate it.

Q: Who's ICly/OOCly running the war for the players?

A:Donos

Q: I'm not having fun at war, who do I speak to?

A: Firstly, any other player on a channel, everyone can suggest good ideas. Failing that, one of the General Staff for War or Donos, or a playerhelper. All might be able to suggest fun things to do.

Q: What are some fun things to do at war?

A: Here are some ideas!
  • Roleplay standing on guard, exchanging gossip and challenging people when they're about to go into a sensitive area.
  • Get with members of your squad and eat dinner together, talking about the battles to come or those that have gone.
  • Bring up past Firan heroes who have died at war.
  • Go talk to a priest, you can even roleplay being nervous about war if it's IC for you to do so, they might be able to help you out.
  • Play tackleball/cards/dice games.
  • Go ask the 5th if you can help them out, they're always bound to be busy.
  • Go find a pilot and wander over to look at the griffons. Griffons are creatures that many Firans have a fear/awe of.
  • Compare scars with another soldier and tell them how you got them.
  • Write a letter to send to home, swap letters you've received from home with another soldier, especially one who hasn't had any mail.
  • Discuss how much better or braver <insert clan> is than the other clans.
  • Go ask your superior officer what they know, surely they know more than you do.
  • If you're a pilot, roleplay going on a patrol with another pilot, practice wingman manoeuvres with them or discuss tactics to use against the Goats.
  • Go the temple tents to pray, convince some other soldiers to go with you.
  • If you're injured, keep asking a healer if you can get up yet, try and sneak out without them seeing (if it's IC for you to do so) so you can get with your mates.
  • Find someone who helped you out in a battle and thank them, share a few drinks with them.

This post, and the post on the IB forums will be amended as more things come up.
