Overview

On Firan there is a yearly war season where all the military characters leave the city to role play out the IC reality of the Shamibelian threat. It generally takes place during late july (sometimes this is not possible and war season is delayed). It is also useful to remember that the military goes out to the front every IC summer. However it is only rp'd once in a real year. This is the same as how we only role play the festivals during the RL spring and summer despite the fact that IC'ly they happen every spring and autumn.

Information specific to the next war season will be added to this page as it becomes available.

How will I be involved?

War season effects every character on the grid in one way or another. Many of the characters will have family going off to war or they may be going themselves. Leading up to each war season there are events that almost any character, military or otherwise, might get involved in. Common examples include supply gathering, troop recruitment, training exercises, religious ceremonies and charity events. During the war season itself involvement for non-military characters lessens but it is still possible to remain involved in the general war effort. A character may pray for members of her families, hold charity events, offer lesson writing circles or similar supporting activities. The military character will at this time be moved to the Ellish war camp where they will be involved in training, camp rp, scouting and airforce missions, command meetings (where relevant) and actual battles. Several characters die each war season and thus, if you will have trouble accepting a character's death, the life of a soldier character is probably not for you.

There are two types of soldiers that participate in the war season. Full time soldiers (those employed year around) and seasonal soldiers (those who sign up for the war season only).

What will be expected of me?

If you play a soldier, your character will be expected to go to the war camp and prepare him or herself for the upcoming battles. Members of the first division tend to remain at home to defend Anarinuell from assault. They will be expected to bleed and even die as the battles for Ellish commence. It is important to remember that there are a number of in character and out of character rules associated with war season. Military discipline in particular is often harshly enforced during the war role playing periods and it is important to make sure you know any rules before you stumble around breaking them. Characters have been flogged (or worse) for things that may be allowed to slip during normal times. Refusing to acknowledge an officers authority can carry a death penalty for example. This is explained in greater detail in the following pages:

What are the rewards?

Rewards vary according to your characters level of involvement and performance in the war season. In general it is an expected part of being a soldier and thus rewards are relatively minor. Just like the rewards a soldier can expect in RL. You may get glory points, recognition, friendships and IC rewards such as medals, promotion or perks such as iron armour permits that you would not have gained without the war season. Most of all you will get an intense and (so I believe) enjoyable role playing experience filled with opportunities to stand out that you may not find anywhere else.
