General Procedure

This is the general outline for how we will run War. Some of the events might happen in different orders than are listed here due to scheduling snafus and what-not.

1. Prepare for war.
1.A. Give the leadership the current situation, as well as it is known.
1.B. Practice war maneuvers and whatnot.
1.C. Supply lists of needed supplies.
1.D. People make and collect supplies and move them to the docks for shipment.
1.E. Clan Council funds the war at Poor, Basic, Good, or Excellent levels.

2. Pre-war scouting to get more information.
2.A. Give the leadership more information.
2.B. Leadership makes plans.

3. Start the war.
3.A. Tally up all the supplies collected in the Military Supplies tinyplot
3.B. Everyone goes to the Front.

4. Give the leadership the current situation.

5. Leadership makes plans and gives orders.
5.A. Battlefield movement phase
5.A.1. Decide which paths to take.
5.A.2. GMs interpret Firan choices and assign battlefield adjustments.
5.A.3. GMs roll dice for Firan leadership (mass org) to see how much of supplies are consumed. Remove consumed supplies.
5.A.4. Move troops.
5.A.5. If troops move into contact with enemy, schedule a battle (@cal) and fight the battle on schedule.

5.B. Resolution phase
5.B.1. Leadership takes additional actions and @requests them (res-day style)
5.B.2. GMs read requests and process them, determining what will happen as a result.
5.B.3. GMs react and send @mails and make @gmemits to let people know what is happening.
5.B.4. GMs assign bonuses and penalties for future battlefields.

6. Go back to '4. Give the leadership the current situation.' Repeat as necessary.

High General

The High General is in charge of all aspects of the war from the player side. This is as much of an OOC role as an IC role -- if not more.

Main IC duties:

  • Make sure the war gets properly funded.
  • Organize the military and prepare them for war.
  • Lead the military at war.
  • Make the highest-level decisions about the strategy of the combined Firan forces.
  • Promote morale among the Firan forces.

Main OOC duties:

  • Organize and educate players participating in all aspects of the war season.
  • Promote morale among the players.
  • Understand the rules of the war season and ensure they are fair.
  • Understand the combat system and make sure all involved players do, too.
  • Schedule and run (or delegate) fun events for players before and during the war.

The GMs will keep a direct communication channel open with the High General before, during, and after the war season. The player can page, @mail, or otherwise contact the war GMs.

During war season, IC orders will be issued through @requests so they can be properly tracked.

The High General's procedure will mostly look like the general war procedure, above.

Clan Council

The Council is ultimately in charge of things, but they tend to put their fate in the hands of a High General that they choose themselves. This is both an IC and OOC decision, as the High General must be reliable as a character and as a player.

They will fund the bulk of the war and have means to inspire people to donate personal monies and goods to the effort.

They should understand the High General's basic war strategy and goals. They should honor the military as it returns back from the battlefields.

Supply Lines

The supply lines make sure that the needs of the Firan forces are provided. This includes supplies in many categories (food, healing, repair, fortifications, transport, arms & armor, and military) and various services in similar categories. Healers are technically part of the supply line.

Before the war, the supply lines will have the opportunity to earn bonus Supply Line points by completing a "laundry list" of items that must be found or made. Each set that is completed earns a +1 Supply Line bonus that can be used by a General for an extra die on a Mass Organization or similar roll during GMed scenes between battles. These scenes will help the Firans get into optimal battle position, ultimately reducing the number of Shamibelians that the Firans must defeat to move on. The pre-war supply line plot is an opportunity for all Firans to pull together and help the war effort.

During the war, the supply lines have a number of duties (some off-camera, because they're boring to play):

  • move supplies on wagons and so on (off-camera)
  • when certain necessary supplies are destroyed or missing, secure them quickly by any means
  • cook food and feed the troops
  • entertain the troops
  • provide religious services for the troops
  • heal the injured
  • move the unconscious off the battlefield and attend to the dead
  • deal with the unconscious and dead enemy
  • repair armor, weapons, and other things that get broken
  • put out fires where they occur
  • build forts and strengthen defenses
  • sap enemy tunnels and walls

Many of the duties of the supply lines will just be handled by players without much GM interference: food, healing, worship, entertainment, dealing with injured and dead, and repairs. Some of these duties will be handled as GMed events: supply missions, firefighting, building forts and defenses, and tunnel and wall sapping. These need no special procedures (they're either player-run or GM-run).

Healing

Here are some collected rules about healing:

  • Healers are allowed on the battlefield to reclaim fallen comrades but cannot use the heal commands there.
  • All healing must take place in a secure location. This may or may not be code-enforced.
  • When a character dies and their player is not online, we will retcon the death and tell the player that they must die in the next battle.
  • Healers can heal characters whose players are connected or disconnected, as long as the character is left in an IC location the healers can reach.
  • We may limit how often each healer can do their thing (to be determined).

Prayer

The Firans have an advantage of having many gods on their side (the Shamibelians only have Drik). This means that many priests can attend the battlefields and give their blessings to soldiers to aid them in battle. The code already limits how often this can occur. Remember that priest characters are technically at risk by being near the front, even if they're not on the front itself. In certain bad situations, there might be battles that include the support teams behind the main lines. No one is safe.

Food

All food will be created by PCs during war season using supplies collected in the pre-war supplies plot.

Soldiers are not allowed to eat during battles. We might change the code to prohibit eating while your timers are running.
