HAPPENINGS

Lord Adan N'gato announced in a speech in Agadin that he had met and fallen in love with Lady Yassamin Ista Barun of Caldera. He went on to say that he would be divorcing his wife, Lady Arika and seeking to marry Lady Yassamin

The Iron Regiment, recently lauded for its work training the 2nd division has left the city, its ranks swelled with new recruits as it returns to the front.

The Cockatrice Clan is as shocked as anyone to hear the speech from Lord Adan in Agadin and his intention to divorce his wife and marry Lady Yassamin Ista Barun. The story has captured their imagination. After all, they never liked the idea of marrying Adan to the Hydrans, and now, the opportunity to get him back into their own clan is irresistible. Overnight, before Lady Yassamin has even set foot in the city of Anarinuell, Cockatrice citizens have decided that she is the most beautiful, virtuous, worthwhile lady in the Republic and that of course, Adan's N'Gato wife cannot hold a candle to her.

"Jest feckin like his father," some Republic guard says upon hearing Lord Adan's speech from Agadin about his intention to take a new wife. The whole thing is eerily reminiscent of a young Prince Sadin's sudden betrothal to Lady Lucretia Firgalik all those years ago. "'Cept his father had enough sense to not actually already be married when dallyin' with noblewomen. Bastard or not, that Lord Adan ain't fallen far from the tree."

The Eagle Clan is absolutely DELIGHTED by this speech of Adan N'Gato's in which he pretty much disses his Hydran wife, their clan, and their culture, with a plain ambition to return to a more civilized people--with a noblewoman of his own Cockatrice Clan. This is a great humiliation for the Hydra Clan, which means the Eagles are all for it! Every Eagle suddenly claims to have seen or met Lady Yassamin at a festival and knows that she is a face worth going to war for, by gods. Anyway, the Eagles are positive that Adan's wife is a cheating Hydra slut who deserves to be divorced, and they immediately start petitioning their priests to grant Adan an annulment. (OOC Tip for Eagles: What annoys the Hydrans is reason for Eagles to drink, and this situation offers the Eagles an opportunity to stick it to the Hydrans without having to actually fight them.)

The Gold Dragons find Adan's speech to be absolutely abominable. Not that they wouldn't approve if, you know, it was in their interest somehow. But since it's not, the whole thing reeks of one polytheistic lord dissing a good monotheistic wife by abandoning her for some Cockatrice whore. Plus, the Dragons hate divorce! Nevermind that their former clan leader shamed them endlessly with it. It's just not right. A noble divorcing because he'd fallen in love with someone else? What is the world coming to?! They are well-prepared to give Lady Yassamin a hostile welcome to the city, and they expect Clan Leader Ojitar to give this Lord Adan a talking to. (OOC RP Tip for Dragons: Go to your priests and complain about how good old fashioned family values are being subverted. Protest that Adan is mounting an attack on marriage itself. Co-miserate with Hydrans. Plot to somehow bismirch the honor of Lady Yassamin so that Lord Adan couldn't marry her if he wanted to. Etcetera.)

The Cockatrice Clan is so pleased, in fact, with the prospect of Lord Adan returning to the fold that they have already started petitioning the Clan Leader and contacting every priest they know in the hopes they can convince the Religious Council to grant Adan an annulment. (OOC RP Tips: Nag your Clan Leader and your proxy if you wish, but more importantly, track down every priest you know and try to persuade them. Send Adan congratulations. Send Lady Yassamin a welcome to Anarinuell gift. Jewelers can make little pins of support for the new couple. Pick a fight with a Hydran in a bar.)

The Chimera Clan knows, or at least they are sure the Bears will tell them, that Adan's behavior in publicly announcing his intention to divorce his wife and take up with a new young one, is probably improper. Gauche. Rude. Unheard-of. All that. But the Ista Barun family was a Chimera family long ago, and they have lots of roots there. The Chimerans have suffered through so many neo-nobles that they can't help but have a little sympathy for a real noblewoman with the last name of Ista Barun, so they already like this Lady Yassamin that Adan has fallen in love with. But more than that, Chimerans are suckers for entertaining love stories that don't involve them in war. Besides, they're the clan of second chances, so why shouldn't Lord Adan get a second chance at marriage?

The Ticanee have a novel solution for this problem between Lord Adan's wife and the new woman he wants to marry. Why not put Lady Arika and Lady Yassamin in a cook-off. Whichever one bakes the best pies gets to keep the man. Or get rid of him if they choose. I mean, last they knew, was Lord Adan really that good of a prize?

The Bears do not approve of Lord Adan N'Gato's speech to divorce his wife. They do not approve one bit. If Lords can just go around doing whatever they want, and marrying for love, and disavowing marriage covenants, well, that just subverts the inherent role of a man as a husband and political inferior, doesn't it? And this whole idea of male-self-determination, getting above one's status in life, and forgetting one's place is most improper! If Lady Arika were any real sort of woman, she'd stab Lord Adan to death with her hairpins.

The Griffons are trying to triangulate their position on Lord Adan's marriage so that they don't end up on the same side of the issue as the Gold Dragons. They wonder if there's a way for them to be an honest peace broker in this situation and raise the esteem of their clan. (RP Tip: Seek opportunities for Griffons to aggrandize themselves and their clan in this situation. Try to find out what the Gold Dragons _really_ think about this, because whatever they think they're wrong. Go to a tavern with other Griffons and try to suss out what the clan position should be on this.)

Lord Adan's speech is the most entertaining thing that the Republic has had to sink it's teeth into in months. It engages the imagination because it involves a few things that really interest Firans: betrayal, clan relations, love, beautiful ladies, foolish lords, and would-be princes. For the Firans this is a lot like the Ana Nicole story--doesn't matter if war season is about to start in Iraq, er, Shamibel. This has got everyone talking.

The Hydrans have had an entire night to seethe, bitch, plot and scheme over Adan's repudiation of his wife and their clan. Lord Adan N'Gato's name is mud in the Hydra lands right now, and one might rightly fear that a Hydran assassin would put him out of his misery before he steps foot in the city of Anarinuell. This would, no doubt, enrage the Cockatrice Clan, but really, the Hydrans are not of a mind to care. This is a matter of honor for them, and they'll have to fight over this now whether they like Adan or not! The Hydrans demand that Clan Leader Diamia immediately denounce this young trollop, Lady Yassamin Ista Barun, as a husband-stealing sinner, and hand her over for an inquisition!

As the priests in Anarinuell deal with matters pertaining to the True Temple, the gathering of priests in Istagadin wanting to learn the ways of the visiting warrior priests within Istagadin grows. And, even those who are not of the priesthood seem to be joining in with the early morning drills, of late.
