Overview
Lady Yassamin Ista Barun is a noblewoman of the Cockatrice Clan. She came to Anarinuell in a swirl of scandal that has since followed her no matter what she does. In her life, she has been called Lady, Priestess, Tart, Trollop, Divorcee, (alleged) Slave, and more.
Early History
Lady Yassamin was born to Lord Erato and Lady Sophia Ista Barun of Caldera City. Lord Erato is the deputy governor of the city, and she enjoyed a very privileged and spoiled life as the child of her parents' older years until an unfortunate fall from a horse nearly killed her and caused her to completely lose her memory. Upon awakening in Unot's Temple, she realized she would never live a truly normal life again when she could no longer recognize her own mother's face. The priests there assured her that she would live, but warned that she might never recover all or even part of her memory. And, indeed, it has never come back to her.
Her parents left her in the care of the priests of Unot, hoping that a life of service to the God whose priests healed her would give her a fuller life. She was raised there from that point on, educated befitting a noble, and completed her initiation at a young age, being sent to the soldiers in Agadin just after her Ceremony of Souls to serve the last part: healing on the battle lines.
Just after finishing her healing requirements, she decided to go on a pilgrimage to the Uffian Oracle, which was not too far from the city. This trip was not to be completed, however. On the journey she was waylaid byShamibelian raiders and almost certainly would have been enslaved or killed had she not been rescued. Her rescuers? Lord Adan N'Gato (formerly Istabannos), Mer Alastor Coyote, and Mes Nicolette Marcello. On their return to Agadin, Lord Adan made a speech declaring his love for Yassamin and his intent to divorce himself from his current wife, Lady Arika N'Gato, and marry Yassamin instead.
Recent History
Adan was eventually divorced from his wife, and it was seen as a sign by many of the favor of [[Eesha] when Adan won a pentathlon at the following Spring Festival and claimed Yassamin as his bride. This marriage was not to last long, however. Only a year or so later, the two were allegedly divorced, under strange circumstances. The only attention given the matter was a speech by Lord Judanarius announcing it, and giving a loss of love as the reason. All was silent on the matter for a year or so until children suddenly started falling ill. First were the children sired by Lord Rikon, then those in Chelona's household, then in Torianos', and lastly, Lord Judanarius' friends. Around the same time, Lady Lucia claimed Adan with her marriage prize. Yassamin officiated at the wedding, but it was one of the shortest in game history. Lady Lucia fell ill within a couple of days, and it was only a week or two before they were declared never to have been married at all. It was announced that Yassamin and Adan's divorce was not properly performed, and that the two were still married. The illness was never formally linked, but it was not long after that announcement that it disappeared.
The couple remained married until very recently, when Lord Rodiste announced that he had heard his longtime enemy, Adan, was dead, and that he, Rodiste, had given his own marriage prize to Yassamin, and that she had chosen to be wed to Rodiste. This caused a tremendous uproar, Yassamin's defrocking as a Priestess of Unot, and is a huge (ongoing) scandal.
