Overview

Zaridos has a pirate's smile and one that he flashes especially when trying to get out of trouble. He is athletic and moves with the sort of proud swagger one comes to expect from a sea-faring man. His looks are nearly startling with bright eyes and dark hair that combine with a wind-burnt flush to his cheeks that seems driven by time on the open water. A dark goatee decorates Zaridos' chin, with two braided tendrils of hair extended from the very bottom of his face.

Zaridos is prone to extremes...he runs when others walk, he shouts when others whisper and he will take giant leaps where others my climb slowly. Due to his irrepressible good-nature, Zaridos likes most everyone and forgets what he was mad about the next day. He's happy, an optimist, and always looking for the next great adventure. He also enjoys sports of any kind and can be found competing at festivals and the Olympics with fierce determination. As a man, he is less naive than in his youth but he is still hooked by fantasy stories and would seek to find the truth in myths if allowed. Unfortunately, he is also as equally distracted so many of Zaridos' projects sit half-finished waiting to be picked back up when he switches gears. Unlike most of the royals, Zaridos has never really let the burden of responsibility get to him. The responsible world often conflicts against Zaridos' sense of fun. Even as he has aged, he has felt more drawn to brash acts to settle political problems which can glorify him or get him in a heap of trouble. He uses his charming personality to persuade others to go along with is Really Foolish Plans(tm). There is a sailor inside of him that seems to wish for the open ocean and the daring fun. Where as all the Elianik Princes might go rushing into battle with a sword, it's more likely that Prince Zaridos will be swashbuckling on the helm of a great ship and proving new naval might for the Firans.

In his youth, Zaridos was one of the premier troublemakers in Anarinuell. Largely insulated from the consequences of his actions by his status, Zaridos spent much of his youth causing chaos, acting dangerously and recklessly. (See Scandals)

As Zaridos grew older and moved into the positions of responsibility that were expected of him, Zaridos's earlier erratic actions often comes back to haunt him. With the weight of responsibility on him, Zaridos seemingly changed - with a few extreme and public exceptions, Zaridos tried to fall more into line with the mainstream-view of how a Prince of the Realm should act.

Although it isn't entirely public about how his change came about, it is rumored that Zaridos's maturity is due to in the time that he has spent in the Palace, largely under the guidance of the Viceroy, Lord Taleo.

Death

During The Kinslayer War, Zaridos said he would only parlay for former Gold Dragon Clan Leader, Lord Jalil Firgalik. Instead it was his brother-in-law, Lord Tyrsun Ista Aldrik, who met him on the fields that day. As they were about to speak (though Zaridos looked angry about the replacement), Sentry Hoopa Verrader, one of the loyalists in Zaridos' army, wielded her sword, letting it cut through the air like an executioner's axe, aiming for Zaridos' neck. A warning shout went up from her companions. Even some of the Gold Dragons shouted out a warning to Prince Zaridos. It was instinct; they're used to battles. Blind assassinations are something the Bears do. The supposed ally of his military missed her mark, but the blade caught him in the arm; it was lopped off above the elbow before she chopped into his side. As the nearby river began to rush and rise, some of his people try to bind his wounds and save him. It would be to no avail, it seems.

Jun 25, in the year 48 A.U. (RL 01/30/2010) Lord Cortik's face looks grim. His scowl has hardened, and his scar is pulled tight beneath his blood-splattered eyepatch. He reaches a hand up, and wipes the blood away... realizing it is Suphi's blood... and not the blood of any enemy warrior. His hand drops as he steps forward toward the Eagles still defending and raises his left hand, his sword lowered. When he speaks, it is in the voice of a commander to his troops, but many can hear, "There is no honor in slaying these men who fight loyally to defend their prince. Zaridos has fallen by treachery rather than glorious combat. Eagle Warriors, Clear the bodies from Zaridos and bear him to Anarinuell. If he lives, let our healers bind his wounds. Gold Dragons... assemble a corrider... we shall, for now, act as honor guard to the fallen and every Firan body shall be borne from this field and brought to the city, let nothing be left behind. There shall be no more fighting today..." At Cortik's words, the remaining defenders of Prince Zaridos seem stunned to still be alive and more stunned when they start digging through the pile of corpses to get to their fallen Prince. Zaridos is breathing, but unconscious. Still, he has lost so much blood he is whiter than the snow. He is a dead man who has simply not found his way to Unot yet, some say, but they cannot know. What they do know is that Zaridos will not rise from this battlefield of his own accord, and still the rivers run, spilling over their banks now with the melting ice, as if the water were come to lick this battlefield of its wounds. But those who fought here know that the wounds will never be healed and this battlefield will never be washed clean.

Sept 1, in the year 48 A.U. (RL 02/22/2010) Healers report that Zaridos slipped away during the night. With his passing, the Kinslayer is, indeed, dead. The end of several months of death and destruction feels as though it has come to an end. The death of this man has paved the way for the future in Anarinuell and in Ellish. And things, as expected, are already becoming heated. The Eagle Clan is worried what the Gold Dragons will do with the body. As such, they are demanding that Zaridos be sent home to be handled in his mother's clan.

Children

  • With his own father asleep or dead for most of his life, Zaridos often looked to the other male leaders of the realm as father figures. Enemies

The animosity between Clan Leader Amenik and Zaridos started in a festival when they were both children. During a festival event, Amenik, then-Lord of the Hydra clan, were amongst the observers when Prince Zaridos grew bored. Zaridos left briefly to find a few tomatoes and returned to start a ruckus. His first target was the palaquined figure of the Hydran Lord, launching a tomato at Amenik.

Amenik's over-zealous guards thought the tomato was the beginning of an attack on the heir to the Hydran throne and whisked Amenik away to the safety of the Hydran district.

Soon, a battle of words began between Amenik and Zaridos during the festival peace and began the high-profile rivalry between Amenik and Zaridos.
