Official Statement
I'm Zaridos. You all know my slave name, and my real name. I didn't kill Hralib, but I wish I did. If you ask me, this is just a scam by the Shamibelians to blame us. For all we know, you could have done it, War Lord Forlanis. After all, everybody knows that you were happily living on your sister Nobifa's land until Hralib came along, married her, and kicked you out. Maybe you got sick of living in tents and wanted to move back in, so you offed the old goat.
Background
Zaridos was a Prince and an Elianik with a good shot at becoming Ranivor. Zaridos was also one of the Generals that helped lose the Firans this war, and has spent much time feeling guilty over it. His master has made him fight as a gladiator, and Zaridos always wins. In fact, this will be his fifth bout, and he may be getting some land for his master if he does win. Usually he wins because he is good, but often because his Firan opponents won't strike at him because he's a prince, forfeiting their own lives for his. This upsets him.
Relationships
- Orsatos -- Zaridos' old palace tutor
- Lucas and Savaren -- Zaridos' fellow princes
- Hashi -- Zaridos' master
- Fissia -- Hashi's wife, and Zaridos' mistress.
- Aylina, Yvette and Gilin -- Hashi's brothel slaves. Zaridos lives with them on Fissia's property.
- Keeli -- A Bonduin woman who was an officer in the Predator division. Zaridos suspects she has loyalty problems.
- Sarina -- A Ticanee officer who served in your division and seemed to be a little too cozy with Hralib once she was captured. Coincidence?
Goals

Zaridos Round One
Round One Reveal
Everyone knows that although Czar is a loyal slave, he was very unhappy about his master Malentez' plan to impregnate Savanna. If Zaridos didn't know better, he'd think Czar took a bit of a shine to Savanna--wonder what their master would think about that if he knew?
Everyone knows that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Hralib bet Throgana could beat Osirus up. She proceeded to do just that, and Osirus swore revenge. Kinda hard on a Hydran man's pride, eh?
Hralib sold Sarina to Ruffialo before the Night of Obala's pride as a gladiatrix slave--she wouldn't be the first slave who, once freed of her master and suspicion, then tried to kill him.
Sarina is not only one of the fire people, but a priestess of Srenna. If she were going to take her revenge upon anyone, she'd burn them. She has a fascination with fire, and wasn't Hralib burned on his face and hands?
Even if Zaridos did screw up in the war against the Shamibelians, Savaren's division should have stopped them before they ever got to Anarinuell. Savaren's troops were fresh, but late, as usual. Doesn't anybody remember what a brilliant military career Zaridos had before the invasion, and how Savaren couldn't ever send reinforcements on time?
Why is it that the only battle anybody seems to remember is the one that Zaridos lost?
Round One Conceal
Zaridos had a foolproof plan to crush the Shamibelian Army outside of Firalut. He doesn't understand how it could have gone so wrong. The Shamibelians rolled over his army as if they knew, in advance, what his plans were. There had to have been a spy in his organization, and if Zaridos ever finds out who, he will make them suffer a long and painful death.
Jalil, Torianos, Savaren, Lucas and Zaridos are all leaders of the Firan Underground Resistance Movement. On the night of Obala's Pride, the rebels slipped away from the Night of Obala's Pride and had a strategy meeting at the temple of Zin.
They got into a terrible and violent argument.
Zaridos knows that Ania’s children were caught in Anarinuell when it fell, but the Shamibelians never discovered them. Instead Brizo has been harboring them in the Temple District, pretending that they are orphans so that the Shamibelians cannot use them as leverage against the Free Firan Republic.
Throgana was a thorn in Zaridos' side. She was a filthy collaborator. She wore the Ranivor's medallion like a trophy. Worse, she knew he was communicating with his sister Ania in the Free Firan Republic, and threatened to turn him in.
Zaridos knows that there's a secret agent in the city, a woman, who has details about the counter-invasions that his sister Ania and the rest of the Firans are about to launch. Unfortunately, the message got garbled and he doesn't know the woman's name. He needs to find her.
Round One Props
- Gladiator weapons
- Weapons permit
Zaridos Round Two
Round Two Reveal
Zaridos knows that Nobifa was having an affair with Malentez Samiroon. Could Hralib have found out about it, and been on the verge of killing her for the insult to his honor?
Zaridos knows something was missing this morning from Malentez's tent -- the rug.
Zaridos recognized the rug that Hralib had been found wrapped up in. It had been stolen from Pevifa's house by Malentez in one of his raids.
Zaridos had seen Malentez doing a great deal of training lately with his sword. Hralib was always better with his mind than weapons, so Malentez could have killed him.
Zaridos knows that Savanna's been stepping out on Malentez with Osirus--if Hralib found out, she might have killed him to shut him up.
Zaridos once told Savanna that she'd be better off killing herself than allowing Hralib to buy her and turn her into an armorer for the whole Shamibelian army. Zaridos promised Savanna that when the Firans were free, he would see that she was convicted of treason if she lifted one hand to armor them. Maybe Savanna felt killing Hralib was her only way out.
Zaridos saw the pool at the Temple of Zin on the Night of Obala's Pride -- clear and sparking, with a little layer of ice on top. However, now it's filthy with ash and there's a two-man-size-hole in the ice. He suspects Hralib was drowned there, and that the water simply froze on him after he was already dead.
Just as Throgana and Hralib were leaving the Night of Obala's Pride, Zaridos saw Fissia let her dog Spike loose, and shouted something that sounded like "KILL!" There were scratches on Hralib's body -- could they be from a dog?
Orsatos had tutored Zaridos and the other princes for many years. Zaridos is certain that Orsatos has always been loyal to them, not to Hralib.
Zaridos always wonders if Lucas was just picking his nose back in Anarinuell, during the war. The city is fortified with such an internal system of walls that it should never have fallen into enemy hands. Lucas should have been able to hold out there, with the First Division, for years. He's obviously a talentless hack, and responsible for the Fall of Anarinuell.
Round Two Conceal
During a recent raid on Malentez' camp, Savanna was raped and when Malentez complained, Hralib wondered aloud what his male slaves like Czar and Zaridos were doing to protect his women. You know what Zaridos was doing? A big fat nothing. Like he is going to protect Shamibelian property when the bastards raid each other.
Brizo has been hiding Ania's children in a secret chamber of the Temple of Kamnestra. However, now that Hralib was clearing it out for Pevifa--they had to go. Back to Firan held territory if possible.
Zaridos once heard Lucas say the Firan Resistance would go better if some prominent examples of Firan traitors could be killed, to show what happened to collaborators like Throgana.
Zaridos is aware that Ladonna is the Mata Hari of the resistance movement, and carries messages between the Firans in coded songs. If she's willing to take those risks, wouldn't she take the risk of assassinating the Shamibelian Governor?
Zaridos wasn’t entirely surprised by Hralib’s death. It had been part of the plan – the rebellion had intended to kill him to sow confusion just before the Firans launched a counter-invasion against Anarinuell. Perhaps Ladonna had the opportunity and just jumped the gun?
Orsatos the Tutor was embezzling funds from Hralib and sneaking stenis to the princes to help pay for their rebellion. If Hralib had found out, he'd have killed Orsatos, so maybe Orsatos killed him first.
Zaridos knows the reason that Savaren had a bloody nose is because the Firan Princes were brawling over a strategy disagreement.
Zaridos knows that the reason Savaren came home wet and shivering that night was because when he and Zaridos got into an argument about strategy and Zaridos shoved him in the pool of Zin. It's the same reason Lucas was wet and shivering.
After Zaridos brawled with the other princes in the Temple of Zin, Jalil was angry with them for fighting in a temple, and demanded that Zaridos hand over a ring that he was wearing. It was a ring that Orsatos had given Zaridos earlier that day "for luck in the arena."
This morning, Zaridos tried to yank the Ranivor's medallion right off Throgana's neck. It's missing now, and Zaridos intends to find it.
During the war, Zaridos used to deliberately send for Savaren's divisions late, just to make him look bad. So what? It was his plans that were going to save the Firans from the Shamibelians. Why should he have to share the glory with Savaren?
Round Two Props
- cipher
Round Two Additional Goals
- Prevent the Shamibelians from poking around and figuring out that a counter-invasion is planned. If Hralib's slaves have to die to keep it quiet, so be it.
- Find out who the secret agent in the city is, who has the information about the counter-invasion
- Zaridos should find out who saw him with Throgana this morning and eliminate them.
Zaridos Round Three
Round Three Reveal
When Jalil demanded Zaridos' ring after the Princes got into a brawl, he growled, "Give me that effing ring" and then Jalil stalked off with it. If it was Tatomir's Ring of Hate, which apparently has gone missing, it might have made him murderously violent--and the ring did end up on Hralib's person by morning.
Zaridos knows that Jalil has been seeking a very strong concentration of poison, which, when ingested, causes a quick death. What would he need that for?
Zaridos notices that Anorna is wearing one of Throgana's earrings--the one that snagged the Ranivor's medallion when he was trying to yank it off her neck.
Round Three Conceal
Zaridos didn't get the chance to murder Hralib. A shame that. It'd have been worth it, even if the slaves had to die.
When Zaridos heard that Hralib had been found dead this morning, the first thing he did was go to find Throgana. He found her at the Slave Temple, nervous, and biting her nails. He attacked her, and strangled her with the Ranivor's medallion. After all, Haralib wasn't around to protect her any more. And Obala apparently loves it when you murder people in His temples.
Zaridos heard someone else come into the Temple while he was strangling Throgana. He didn't have time to stay and figure out who might have seen him, so he has no clue. But he knows that when he left Throgana, she was wearing the Ranivor's medallion which had caught on her earrings when Zaridos was trying to yank it off.
Zaridos is pretty sure that he's responsible for the Fall of Anarinuell. If he hadn't delayed the order for reinforcements from Savaren, he might have arrived on time to save the Firans. Zaridos' plan seemed brilliant at the time, but his army was decimated because of it.
