ZATEEN MAGEERAN
Zateen Mageeran, born of Leena and Mateen Mageeran during the Hydran Exodus, continued a rather tragic cycle within his family. His father passed, believed killed by Old City denizens, before meeting his son. Zateen, too, died before seeing his own child enter the world. Ever since he was young, Zateen wished to do more than simply run the family farm; he wanted to be a Hydra warrior, a soldier.
Zateen was always a serious young man, relying on his mind to get him ahead. He rarely jumped blindly into situations. He was a careful, thoughtful soldier who relied just as much on his wits as his brawn in a battle. When Zateen and his mother Leena returned to Anarinuell, the Hydrans had only just rediscovered the Hydra Warrior Code. This, people say, did not phase the young Mageeran one bit: he took to the Code quite avidly and followed it dutifully. He lived piously, praying at the temple and doing work whenever he could. Blessed with good looks, Zateen also had a flood of Hydran girls looking his direction. Zateen never noticed, his head on too straight for that sort of distraction, but he did marry a Mes Joie Rianavalu -- to the dismay of several other clanswomen.
Zateen was also part of a strange trip to the Kingdom of Nekaht. He wrote his accounts on a scroll -- including his thoughts on Nekaht war stratagems -- and gave those scrolls to the Republic military. The rest were copied and distributed amongst the Firan peoples, and one of them was sent to the Hydran City of Zutran.
And then, Zateen Mageeran met his end. After merely two months of marriage, in the war season of 37 AU, Zateen headed off to fight the Shamibelian foes that plagued the Firan people. Zateen was killed in battle -- and here accounts are fuzzy. Some say it was a coward's fault, that a man ran away and left the Mageeran on the field. Some say it was a Hydran, his own clan's man, and that maybe there was something darker at work. Others, however, merely say that it was a battle, and people die. In any case, Zateen perished at the front, an honorable soldier, and he has left behind a family: a wife, and a child he will never know.
